چکیده
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of temperature on survival, development, and reproduction of Copitarsia decolora. Both linear and nonlinear models were used to model temperature-dependent development and population growth for C. decolora reared on asparagus andartiÞcial diet.Weused@Risk Software tobootstrapmodel parameters so that variability in observations could be incorporated into model predictions. C. decolora eggs required 69 DD to complete development with a base temperature of 7.8 C. C. decolora developed through four to six instars depending on temperature and food source. Development of larvae from neonate through prepupa required 341.4 DD above a base of 7.3 C on asparagus, whereas 254.5 DD were needed on artiÞcial diet, where the base temperature was 7.7 C. Pupae required 236 DD (base temperature 8.2Ð8.4 C) to developwhen reared on asparagus or artiÞcial diet. Femalemoths laid signiÞcantlymore eggs at 14.6 and 20.1 C than at higher or lower temperatures. Survival of individuals to the adult stage increased from 71% at 9.7 C to 93% at 24.9 C. Survival fell off rapidly to 25% at 29.5 C. The generation time was the shortest at 29.5 C; however, only 25% of females survived to the adult stage, fecundity was low, and only 53% of the eggs hatched. The capacity for increase, rc, was low at 9.7 C, peaked at 25.7 C, and declined as temperature increased. We estimated that populations on asparaguswould not develop at temperatures 31.3 C or 6.9 C.We show the importance of estimating a range of values for base temperature and degree-days by conducting a preliminary pathway analysis that incorporates the effect of temperature on egg hatch.

Evidence of Cryptic Species Within the Pest Copitarsia decolora (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
Copitarsia decolora (Guenée) is a widely distributed, highly polyphagous pest found throughout Central and South America. We examined multiple populations of C. decolora with the mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase I (COI). We also investigated morphological variation in adult males sampled from these populations. COI evidence suggests that C. decolora is comprised of two cryptic lineages and...

This research was undertaken to gather data in support of an assessment of the likelihood that Copitarsia decolora (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), a pest of asparagus, Asparagus officinalis L., and other crops, could escape from the pathway followed by asparagus from the field to the consumer. Asparagus that is destroyed by cooking and consumption, being run through a trash compactor or garb...
متن کاملA unified degree day model describes survivorship of Copitarsia corruda Pogue & Simmons (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) at different constant temperatures.
Predictions of survivorship are critical to quantify the probability of establishment by an alien invasive species, but survival curves rarely distinguish between the effects of temperature on development versus senescence. We report chronological and physiological age-based survival curves for a potentially invasive noctuid, recently described as Copitarsia corruda Pogue & Simmons, collected f...

Development and emergence patterns of the tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
Study of lifecycle patterns and rhythms is important to understand the ecology and evolution of insects. The tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a serious polyphagous pest in Asia, Oceania and the Indian subcontinent. The laboratory investigations of development patterns and circadian rhythms described in this paper have shown that the development duration from egg to...
